Red Barn Home Center Has Storage & Workshop Solutions
Whether you need more storage space, want to be able to park your car in your garage or need a new workshop, Red Barn Home Center can provide the solution. Red Barn Home Center, aside from carrying an array of beautiful storage sheds, also has gazebos and carports. Owner Bill Davies is always eager to help and has an answer to almost any question you can ask about his portable buildings and other items.
Davies has owned the business for a little more than a year and Red Barn was established in 1996 at what is now the Hitchcock’s plaza in Newberry. Davies now operates the business a little further west on Newberry Rd., just east of Main St. (S.R. 45) in Newberry. Red Barn is a retail outlet for Gulf Coast Storage Sheds of Horseshoe Beach, their sister company Gulf Coast Supply, which is in the metal roofing business, and a couple of other companies that manufacture carports and gazebos. Aside from those structures, Red Barn can provide boatports, RV-ports and barns.
“We do all residential types of structures,” says Davies. “Everything that we have is a factory-built product that is delivered intact to the homesite, set-up, anchored, tied down. Everything we do is set to the prevailing building code, whether it’s in Alachua County or outside of the county.”
Davies says all of the structures he sells already are Florida Department of Community Affairs-approved buildings, which makes the permitting process a relative breeze. “When you submit the plans, the only question marks for a permit for one of the buildings will be whether the anchoring is approved and, of course, we do it to code,” Davies explains. “The only other question is whether it will be put on the site within the setbacks of the property. We give the customer a package (to smooth the permitting process), depending on the county?(where the site is located). People want a smooth process, so I get involved as much as I can.”
Davies says all of his buildings are built with quality. “These are not your metal storage sheds that are all rickety,” he says. “They have substantial lumber in them. They have a flooring system like a mobile home and a sturdy roofing and wall system.”
The storage sheds at Red Barn Home Center feature wood siding, which Davies says is much more sturdy than metal siding. “Metal siding is flimsy,” says Davies. “Metal buildings are not as secure as our buildings. Metal also is a conductor of heat, so it will make the building like an oven in the summertime. We have wood siding, a continuous ridge vent on each side and two gable vents on each end. On the hottest day of the summer, you can sit in there and not be driven out by the heat for a while.” Davies says because they are manufactured in Horseshoe Beach, they are made specifically for Florida weather. “You won’t have a problem with mold or moisture like you would with a metal shed,” he explains.
The sheds that Davies sells also feature 8-feet side walls and are 11-feet high at the ridge cap. The floors also are created with five 4x4 runners on the bottom, with tongue-in-groove plywood flooring. “The tongue-in-groove flooring will not come up over time,”?says Davies.
“We’ve got about 12 different exterior colors and about 25 metal roof colors,” says Davies. “You can also get shingle roofs, with shingles by Tamco. For areas that have homeowners associations or deed restrictions, we can customize and match any color for $50. If you want (the shed) to match your house exactly, you just have to give me a sample or manufacturer’s color code and we can match it.”
Davies also has a website (www.redbarnhomecenter.com) that is loaded with details where customers can see all of the engineering and building specs, prices and picture galleries.
“They just don’t put enough storage in these Florida houses,” says Davies. “You can even take our sheds with you if you move.”
Davies says he offers financing and 90 days same-as-cash. However, he says most of his storage sheds are so affordable that most people just pay with cash or credit card.
