Despite having been open only a few months, Fuji Sushi, located in the Jonesville Steeplechase Publix plaza at the intersection of Newberry Rd. and C.R. 241, has new owners, who are excited about bringing fresh and healthy dining to the area.

New owner Wade Hsu had been rolling sushi in the Fort Lauderdale area since 1994. But, when he found out that Fuji Sushi was for sale, he jumped at the opportunity. “We really liked this area, so we decided to buy the restaurant,” he says.

Hsu says he prides himself both on having a clean and sanitary restaurant and providing the best, freshest and healthiest ingredients he can for his customers.

“A lot of people eat sushi for their health,” Hsu explains. “I can help educate you about what sushi is healthy. We also have brown rice available.”

While Hsu admits that many sushi restaurants feature similar menus, he says that his sushi is about the personality of the chef. “I encourage my customers to ask for Wade when they come to the restaurant,” he says. “I like to make new friends. I like to socialize with the customers and get to know what they like to eat.” Hsu also knows everything there is to know about sushi, from the trivial to the profound.

Aside from the traditional rolls one might find on a sushi menu, Hsu has several that he feels sets his restaurant apart. His crunchy shrimp roll, featuring tempura shrimp and a combination of delicious sauces, is his most popular. He also offers an incredible Fuji House roll that is smothered in baked scallops and melts in your mouth.

In addition to the sushi and sashimi offerings, Fuji Sushi features plenty of delicious appetizers, entrees and desserts. The miso soup, onion soup, seaweed salad and tuna tataki, which is seared tuna featuring Hsu’s homemade ponzu sauce, all are worth trying.

The restaurant also has several entrees hot from the kitchen, including beef, chicken, pork and tofu teriyaki.

And, you won’t want to skip dessert at this restaurant. The tempura-fried bananas and ice cream are divine and Fuji Sushi also features tempura ice cream.
