Buchholz Girls Soccer Loses In Regional Quarterfinals

Despite su
ffering some late season injuries, the Buchholz High girls soccer team, coached by Ron Messick, pulled out another Class 6A-District 1 championship. However, the Bobcats’ luck ran out in the postseason, as the team lost its Regional quarterfinals game to Flagler Palm Coast.
The Regional game, which was held at Citizen’s Field, appeared to be heading the Bobcats’ way at halftime, as Buchholz held onto a 2-0 advantage. However, the tide would turn and Palm Coast scored three unanswered goals in the second half to eliminate the ‘Cats from the playoffs. Kim Sapienza and Allie Bullard scored for the Bobcats.
Prior to Regionals, the Bobcats proved to be the top team at the District 6A-1 Tournament at Orange Park. Buchholz defeated Jacksonville Mandarin 2-0 in the title game. Sapienza netted what would be the game-winner for the ‘Cats and Maja Reichardt scored on a header off a corner kick to add insurance.
The Bobcats finished their season with a 15-4-5 record.
