Buchholz Baseball Advances To Regional Championship; Loses 3-Game Series To Lake Brantley

 

After posting an impressive 18-6 regular season record, the Buchholz High Bobcats baseball team won the Class 6A-District 1 tournament and advanced all the way to the Regional title series, which it lost 2-1 to the Lake Brantley Patriots. 

In the championship game, the Bobcats lost 4-1 to Lake Brantley. The 'Cats lone run came on a solo homer by Will Allen. Lake Brantley's pitcher struck out 12 Bobcats and allowed only five hits in the game.

In the previous days' double-header, Buchholz lost the first game 11-5, but won the second game 7-3. In the second game, Bobcats ace Morgan McKinney threw six solid innings, giving up just one run on four hits and striking out nine batters. Allen, who blasted a solo homer in game one, drove in four of the Bobcats' runs in the second game. 

The 'Cats posted an impressive 6-1 win over Fletcher in the Regional semifinals. Buchholz pitcher Jardian Thomas threw a complete-game, with 10 Ks and five hits.
The Bobcats began their Regional playoff action with an impressive 3-0 win over Deltona. Buchholz pitcher Morgan McKinney, who improved to 10-1 on the season, threw a complete game two-hitter, with 10 Ks. Will Allen drove in the first of the ‘Cats’ runs on a sacrifice fly. Kevin Prindle and Jardian Thomas also had RBI.

Prior to the Regionals, the Bobcats won the District 6A-1 Tournament with a 6-1 win over Fletcher. The Senators notched only two hits against McKinney, who collected 9 Ks. Matt Smith drove in the winning run on a double. While the Bobcats have won several District championship titles in a row, this was the first District championship under first-year head coach Banes.

The ‘Cats earned the school’s tenth consecutive playoff appearance with an 8-3 come-from-behind win over Mandarin in the District semifinals. Thomas pitched a complete game and went 2-for-4 with  two RBI.The Bobcats scored seven runs in the fifth inning to run away with the game. Buchholz was trailing 3-1 when Brett Bozeman hit a two-run single to tie the game in the fifth inning. The Bobcats then wacked four consecutive hits, had a throwing error in their favor and had a 7-3 lead by the end of the stanza.

In 2007, the Bobcats reached the Regional finals game.
